This is the world's widest avenue (130m). It is named after Argentina's Independence Day, July 9, 1816 the day they broke free from the Spanish Crown. Today, the street is a busy avenue lined with shops and restaurants. Situated at 9 de Julio Av. and Corrientes Av is the Obelisk. A tall monument towering over the city at 71m was built in 1936 on the site where the nation's flag was first raised.
